Osteopathy is a well-established natural approach to Healthcare
Osteopathy has been around since the 1870s. It is based on a unique system of clinical diagnosis that takes the whole body into account. It is generally considered to be safe but even with very gentle methods, we are ethically obliged to point out that all forms of treatment may occasionally be associated with possible adverse reactions in individual cases. Osteopathy is based on hands-on techniques that do not use drugs.
Practitioners have a minimum of 4 years full-time osteopathic education studying the human body, joints, muscles, back, neck and limbs, as well as most of the medical sciences (we do not study surgery, and receive only a modest instruction in pharmaceutical drugs).
When you visit us, you will be asked to provide a medical history, and describe any previous accidents or injuries you may have had, your occupation, sports, hobbies and some points about your lifestyle. We will take 40 minutes to assess you and your symptoms, explain our findings, and with your consent, provide treatment, along with appropriate advice and recommendations. Our Osteopathic assessment is detailed and thorough.
In our treatment, we use our hands to investigate the underlying causes of your pain, and draw from a wide variety of hands-on techniques in order to help you. Also we may give lifestyle advice where appropriate. A caring approach and attention to the needs of the individual is a characteristic of our clinic and is important throughout the treatment we provide.
People come to our clinic with back pain, neck pain, headaches, joint and muscle problems, and we look for the best treatment approach for each person, by combining our skills and experience with good evidence-based care.
Osteopathy Has One of the Best Safety Records of Any Medically Related Profession
At GC Osteopathy, we are trained to recognise conditions that might make osteopathic treatment inadvisable, and in such cases we will refer you for appropriate medical attention.
Osteopathic treatment offers considerably more than just 'Spinal Manipulation' or 'Massage with Manipulation'; in fact, our approach is adapted to each person at each visit. We are skilled and trained to use muscle or connective tissue stretching, rhythmic joint movements, muscle energy technique, cranial osteopathy, a range of massage techniques, joint manipulation, positional release, myofascial release and other gentle release techniques. At each session we aim to provide advice about the cause and consequence of your condition, may recommend specific exercises, and choose from a broad spectrum of techniques in order to achieve the best result that we can for you.
Osteopathy offers a natural treatment option that has been shown to be effective for the treatment of low back pain, neck pain, some types of headaches and migraines, some shoulder problems and some forms of lower limb pain.
