There are a multitude of structures and tissues that can potentially cause your low back pain

  • Spinal disc herniation, disc bulge or the so called ‘slipped disc’ are very common in a high percentage of people who do not experience back pain.
  • It has been known for over 10 years that observing a herniated disc on Xray or MRI may not be the cause of your back pain.
  • In fact, the chances of your disc herniation causing your back pain is really quite slim.
  • Imagery of a disc herniation enforces the idea that something is broken or out of place which can misguide the true cause of your back pain.
  • But what about your associated problems (sore foot, knee, hip?).
  • The correlation of Xray and MRI in diagnosing back pain is known in the literature to be very, very poor.
  • There are a multitude of structures and tissues that can potentially cause your back pain and not just the disc.
  • Osteopaths are trained in testing for disc herniation and identifying structures and soft tissue that maybe related to your pain.
  • Osteopaths see the body as being intimately interconnected and an injury to one area having an effect on the whole body (e.g back bone connected to the hip bone)
  • Come and see our osteopaths at GC Osteopathy who can help identify the cause of your pain and use manual therapy to restore normal range of motion and tissue tension.

Quick Fix for Chronic Pain

This article highlights that chronic pain, defined by its long duration, often involves multiple layers such as mechanical, neurological, or physiological changes. Osteopaths approach chronic pain like detectives, working gently and steadily to unravel these layers for lasting change.
